Manipulating Splice Locations With Two or More Splices Present
- By Sean Boyer -

When adjusting the splice length of a board in the middle of a member, the splice tool will adjust both ends of the board to achieve the length specified by the user. To illustrate, the highlighted splice below will be adjusted to 16’-0” in order to center the splice.

If this board is adjusted to 16’-0” by simply entering the dimension the splices will appear as follows.

Note that the selected splice changed to 16’-0” but the spliced on both ends of the board moved to accommodate that change.  To override this default behavior, the user must specify which end of the splice should move.  By using “R” at the end of the dimension, the splice tool is forced to adjust the right end of the board. If “L” is used after the splice length, the splice tool is forced to adjust the left end of the board. If the board is to be adjusted on both ends equally omit the L/R end control.  In the case of this example the user would enter 16R so only the splice at the right end of the board is adjusted.
