InfoStar™ Server Hardware Guidelines

Last Updated: 06/06/04

Our experience in having an efficient database in a server environment is to purchase the fastest computer you can afford.  Based on field experience, we suggest a PIII 800 Server with the following suggested configurations.  (See InfoStarTM Workstation Guidelines for workstation configuration.)

  1. If Windows NT Server is used, it will become the server for your ENTIRE network, not just for workstations using InfoStar.  Windows NT Server with 10 Client Option Pack sells for approximately $1025.
  2. SQL Server with 20 Client License Pack is approximately $2300.

Suggested Upgrades
The server outlined above is a high end PC and should be sufficient for many customers.  If more than 10 users are expected to access the server – or for more demanding needs – you may want to consider a true "server class" system.  This setup would have more bays for future upgrades, a built-in backup power system, faster (SCSI) hard drive, hot-swappable parts, and built-in redundancy.
